Preserving Parking Lots

A crane owned by Winkler and Sons Crane Co., used to move large structures.

Visiting Longnook Beach in Truro throughout the summer, I watched the sand slowly accumulate as it was blown over the edge of the cliff into the parking lot. This is part of an annual cycle where the sand blows into the parking lot during the summer and in the off season the NPS plough the sand off the lot, dumping it back down onto the steep beach path. From this parking lot, there are two steep divergent paths that lead down to the beach, which have to be retrampled and established by daring beach goers at the beginning of each season after the path has been obscured by dumped sand.
