Coastal Change

Walking down to Ballston Beach with surfboards, Chris Murphy pointed to a house perched on one of the nearby dunes to tell me “As recent college graduates in 1980 we were allowed to stay in the Whitelaw’s house overlooking Ballston Beach. At that time the house stood on top of the dunes overlooking the beach and we had a commanding view of the Pamet Valley and all the other houses below. Today with the house being moved because of ocean encroachment, the house is now 50 feet lower than it once was. It doesn’t have that same commanding view and it just isn’t the same.”
